Forms of Verbs

Read these sentences.

1. The child laugh at the clown.
2. The children laugh at the clown.

The verb in sentence (1.), 'laughs' is a singular verb because the subject 'child' is a singular subject.

In sentence (2.), the subject is 'children' which is a plural noun and so the verb also changes to a plural verb 'laugh'.

Every sentence has a subject and a verb and the subject and the verb must agree in number.
