Simple Future Tense

Read these sentences.
1. My grandfather will visit us tomorrow.
2. They will come back next month.
3.We shall stay in Shimla till friday.
The words printed in bold are verbs and they are in the simple future tense. They tells us about future events.
Examples :


'will visit', 'will come' and 'shall stay'.
Note that we use 'tomorrow ', 'next month', and such words to suggest the future time.

The simple future tense tells us about that will take place in the time to come.
FORMS OF THE SIMPLE FUTURE TENSE
We use : shall/will + original form of the verb.
Examples :
1. He will visit us tomorrow.
will + visit is the original form of the verb
2. We shall stay in Shimla till friday.
shall + stay is the original form of the verb

We use short forms such as
1. I shall = I'll
2. we will = we'll
3. they will = they'll

We usually use :

  • 'shall' with I/we
  • 'will' with the other pronouns
A. Complete sentences using the simple future form of the verbs given in brackets.
1. The porters ................. the luggage. (carry)
2. The train .................. at 4:30 pm. (arrive)
3. Sudha .................. a letter to me. (write)
4.I ................... the station by 4 pm. (reach)
5. Madhu ................... me her books in the evening. (give)
6. They .................. the shop at 9 pm. (close)
7. Meena .................. at the culture events. (sing)
8. The doctor .................. my grandfather tomorrow evening. (examine)
9. Farah .................. school on monday. (miss)
10. We ................... in the Inter-house Debate Competition. (participate)
B. Change the of the following sentences into simple future tense.
1. Varun plays the guitar.
2. Nishant books my ticket.
3. The carpenter makes wooden furniture.
4. We learn French on weekdays.
5. I clean my room in the morning.
6. Satish wishes me on my birthday.
7. I complete my classwork before others.
8. My mother cooks pasta in the evening.
9. Seema goes for morning walk.
10. I help my mother in the kitchen.
